Silver Maple flour spoon
I finished a flour spoon made in Silver Maple, its finished with the knife and oiled with Flax seed oil. I have a few more bits left from the Maple and plan on making a couple more spoons.
The Maple is lovely wood to work, carves and finishes well.
I've never carved any red Maple, we do have them here but they are more of a ornamental tree in parks and gardens, they are sometimes planted as street trees. I found the silver Maple wood very soft and when dried very light.
Is it softer than red maple?
