Ash stool

Well I managed to finish the little stool/chair for Elizabeth.
I weaved the top with some 4 ply Jute twine, it worked out very well and is very comfy.

The pattern is Rush style, something that I have never tried before. I will be ordering some paper rush for future chairs.

I think its turned out ok, a rustic style stool for my daughter, anyway she enjoys it and thats what really counts.

  1. Could you harvest your own rush? We call them cattails over here and they're quite common. (Nice stool and a cute daughter!)

  2. Thanks DeanO.
I might have to give this a go one day Gorges, I believe the paper rush is easier to work as it doesn't need soaking so I might have to work up to this.

  3. I like the color of the ash. I make a lot of things out of Spouthern yellow pine, and I do enjoy looking at wood that is NOT yellow. I hope the jute holds up. Do you think it will stretch very much?

  4. Very impressed and inspired by your work. I want a Kuksa now and may have to carve one! Any tips? I am also inspired by your spoons and will be getting a spoon carving knife very soon. Thanks for sharing your work

  5. Thanks Guys, the Jute seems to be holding up well so far, tbh if it goes I can always replace it with something stronger.

Dave Kuksas are great to make, just been looking at your work, very nice carvings fella!!!

  7. I love the stool Simon. I'm a novice greenwood worker and would love to try the weaving for chairs and stools that I am making. Any tips or links on how to get started?
