I made myself a new carver, a Bergstrom blade that I got from Brisa, I have quite a bit of Laburnum wood, so I got a nice bit that shows of the heart and sap wood for the handle.
The wood is fantastic with a few coats of linseed oil.
I had a quick go with it this evening and its a great blade, very sharp and keeps a good edge.
I like the blades Gunnar makes. they are made from Udderholm 1770 spring steel HRC 60.
I think I might get some more in the future.

A quick Birch spoon.
I haven't made a spoon for a while and yesterday I decided to make a quick spoon before tea. I have been toying over the idea of an eating spoon design, its based on an old spoon we had in the drawer. I managed to get it roughed out before my tea then finished it of last night with a bit of decoration on the handle.
The decoration on the handle.

Todays post.
A parcel from the postman came today, more tools from Svante Djarv for my shop greenwood tool supplies.
Amongst them is some very nice gouges, 40x32 bent gouges, these are perfect for bowls or larger spoons.

Laburnum Bowl
I just love carving Laburnum!, and when we were called out to one that had fell over in the winds I kept the trunk for some bowls and other projects.
The tree had some root decay but the trunk was sound. I have only managed to carve this bowl so far and it will be a while until I carve any more.
I love the way Laburnum looks when finished with a tool finish and then oiled!.
