Finished the Chestnut bowl

I finally finished the Horse Chestnut bowl I had been working on, it has been drying for about a week now and yesterday I made all the finishing cuts and oiled it with Linseed oil.

I had debated whether to sand the bowl but decided against it and instead used my bent gouge chisel to finish the inside and my knife to finish the outside, I think its turned out well and I'm really pleased with it.

  1. I think that was a really good decision to leave the outside unfinished. Beautiful bowl.

  3. Gorgeous! Your work is fantastic. Tell me; is horse chesnut safe for food preparing utensils? All of your work has inspired and the storm has just happened to leave my poor horse chesnut with quite a few fallen branches.

  4. Hi Simon

I hope this is not the 10th iteration of this comment that you receive! I have been having a hard time posting here.

Beautiful work and I am glad you kept the toolmarks. They definitely add to the character of the bowl.

Like Hettie, I would like to hear what you think about the food safety of horse chestnut. I recently made a few spoons out of it and would like to know before putting them to use, especially since one of them is for my 6-month-old daughter.

    respectfully,
    Toscano
