I started this bowl a few weeks ago along with another bigger bowl, its made from some Lombardy Poplar wood, its took a long time to fully dry so I have had to wait till now in order to finish it.
The larger bowl is still quite wet so I will have to wait to finish it, I'll post some pics when its done.

Frosts 106 in Laburnum
I finished a new carver today, its made from Laburnum from a very old tree that we had to cut down the other year, the blade is a frosts 106 from Dennis at Brisa. I really like these blades and I have wanted to handle one for ages now, my dilema was how to do it, most of my users are knives that I have handled myself and I like the rustic look and tooled finish you get when shapping them to fit your hand. For this I wanted something a bit posh! haha, I really like the Laburnum handle and sanding it down did the wood proud showing its stunning colour and figure.

The tooled leather sheath is one I made a few years ago, it fits a treat.

The handle is very comfy in all grips and is a joy to carve with.

I will be using this one as a finishing knife I think.

A new business venture.
I have been working on an idea of mine and recently set up my own shop, its something I have been toying with for a while now, and now its up and running.
wwwgreenwoodtoolsupplies.co.uk
Hopefully it will take off and be something that I can develop over time.
I recieved my first stock yesterday, shinny new axes adzes and knives.

There are more tools on the way and I look forward to more customers and new tools soon.
We are also on facebook.

Alder bowls.
I have been on a bowl carving spurge recently and I have been enjoying it!
These two are from Alder.
I love carving Alder when its green and this was as fresh as it comes.
The colour it turns when left is fantastic, a real orangy colour, these bowls were carved green then left to dry, Alder also has a tendancy to warp when drying so I left these thick until dry, then carved the final finish.

The underside of the bowls, the longer one I carved a raised bottom which I think worked out well.

It also has a nice curve to it.

I love tooled finish work!, Alder is a great wood to carve and I am going to enjoy using these bowls.
I am also working on a Cedar bowl and A nice egg basket in Birch, when I get them finished I'll get some pics posted.
